Research & Learning Center Specialist
About this position:
The Research Librarian & Learning Center Specialist will assist in delivering remote and in-person library instruction and training for students, faculty, and staff, including the development of programs, workshops, and materials to promote scholarship, and information literacy and address 300 & 400-level research needs. Developing subject-area expertise, this position will help create and maintain subject-specific web pages, guides, and communications and will serve as a liaison to specified Divisions to help coordinate library programming, purchasing, and services. Additionally, this position will oversee the collection, analysis, and reporting of library data for internal and external use, help oversee identified Library and research projects, and provide technical and research expertise as new courses, services, and resources are investigated and implemented.
Duties/Responsibilities
Research (40%)
- Maintain a working knowledge of all library services and databases and a professional atmosphere for reference and study
- Provide research support for students, staff and faculty
- Consult faculty on assignments
- Conduct research on new courses, projects and assignments
- Gather data on library usage, services, & purchasing
- Analyze and report data for internal and external use
- Conduct regular assessments of library skills, resources and services
- Develop research expertise in a number of areas
- Create support materials and communications for identified 300 & 400 level classes
Instruction (25%)
- Design and provide specialized library instructional sessions
- Create instructional materials & tutorials as needed.
Administration/Outreach (35%)
- Catalog new and donated items in our system as well as OCLC
- Observe and apply cataloging and labeling standards for new and donated items
- Assist with the training of Student Workers
- Research and recommend items for purchase
- Assist with weeding and general print and electronic collection maintenance
- Assist with the tracking, organization, inventory and billing of serials
- Serve as a liaison to specified Divisions
- Develop protocols, materials and schedules for reporting library data e.g. cost, usage
- Create reports, newsletters, & web pages
- Conduct staff training sessions and displays for standard and special library events
- Oversee research and other library projects
- Investigate alternate resources and funding as needed and assigned
About our ideal candidate
Qualifications include a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree is preferred); experience in collection development, teaching and/or researching in a library or college setting; excellent writing and speaking skills; a firm grasp of undergraduate research needs and materials; strong interpersonal skills; high degree of computer literacy; experience creating online tutorials, newsletters and/or web pages; management skills; ability to work well independently and within a team; ability to organize, plan and coordinate projects; ability to gather and analyze data; and a firm commitment to customer service and professional development.
